Four Options for Getting Started
Bequests:
By including Summer Search in your will, you can offer support without giving up crucial assets you may need now. To facilitate working with your advisor, we suggest using the language listed below.
Life Insurance:
Donating your life insurance policy to Summer Search may allow you to claim an immediate income tax deduction for the current value of the policy, and you may also be able to deduct your future premium payments.
Retirement Assets:
By making a gift of retirement assets, you may save your estate the significant burden of paying both estate and income taxes on those assets.
Trusts:
Charitable remainder trusts offer supporters a way to provide for themselves and their loved ones while they are alive and also support Summer Search.

Bequest Language
Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, is an impactful way to assure that young people, regardless of circumstances, will continue to have the opportunity to fulfill their potential and lead their families and communities to thrive well into the future. In your will, you may assign a percentage of your estate to Summer Search, specify a dollar amount, or even assign the remainder of your bequest after all other provisions have been specified.

Below is suggested language to use when drafting your bequest.
Sample Language
For an unrestricted gift that allows Summer Search to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:
“I give to Summer Search, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 304 12th Street, Suite 4A. Oakland, CA 94607, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”
To designate your provision for a particular purpose:
“I give to Summer Search, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 304 12th Street, Suite 4A. Oakland, CA 94607, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Summer Search determines that the need exists. If Summer Search shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Summer Search may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”
