Meet Sherri Brooks, Summer Search's Director of Learning, Evaluation, & Engagement. 

Sherri is our data champion working with our National Program team, using data to tell the story of what Summer Search does and the impact being made. 

In the next four weeks, Sherri will provide a look behind the numbers to explore some of the demographics of the young people we are serving at Summer Search, how we measure the impact of our program, and how we hope to improve using the learnings from our data.

Who Are Our Summer Searchers?

*Persons of color defined as Latinx, Black/African American, Asian, Native American/Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, Middle Eastern/North African, Multi-racial.

Summer Search participants are young people who are seeking opportunities to discover their passions and find their purpose in life. 

They reside in five metropolitan areas across the country: in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, and the San Francisco Bay Area.  

In 2023, of the 3,685 high school and post-secondary participants we served: 

  • 62% are Female-Identifying. 
  • 96% are Persons of Color. 
  • 90% entered our program qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunch. 
  • 86% are or will be First Generation college students. 

Also in 2023, we welcomed 581 new sophomores, bringing our total number of Summer Searchers to 9,039!!
