Ang aking larawan:

This photo was taken in Seoul, South Korea where I traveled with my mom in the fall of 2023; it was my first time in the motherland as an adult and my mom’s first time traveling around her home country since she immigrated to the U.S. over 30 years ago.

Aking Bio:

As a child of immigrants, product of a single parent, low-income household, first generation college and graduate school student, and woman of color, Cho intimately understands the value of the resources and supports Summer Search provides to students and alumni. She feels fortunate to have a community of friends, mentors, and sponsors who believe in her, guide her, support her, and push her and is deeply passionate about creating these spaces for students, especially students from marginalized communities. As a former educator, Cho is, and will always be, an advocate for equitable educational opportunities for BIPOC communities in Philadelphia. She gives a special shoutout to her former students and their families, who will always be central to her “why”.

Throughout the past 12 years, Cho engaged in a variety of experiences in the education sector that guide and inform her practice. She serves as an equity-centered executive leadership coach affiliate at Developing Capacity Coaching, conducted a doctoral residency with the Community Schools and Student Services department at Oakland Unified School District (CA), engaged in a superintendent’s practicum at Cambridge Public Schools (MA), and completed various consultancies and fellowships at state/federal departments of education, education nonprofits, and school districts across the country. Cho served for 8 years as a teacher and school leader in Philadelphia schools, most recently at Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Charter School. She earned her B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) at Colgate University in Chinese Studies with a minor in Asian Studies, her M.S.Ed. (Master of Science in Education) at the University of Pennsylvania in Urban Education and her Ed.L.D. (Doctorate of Education Leadership) at Harvard University.

In the warmer months Cho loves to hike, solo-camp, kayak, and try new outdoor activities and in the colder months she loves to read, watch movies and TV, and spend time with her amazing community. Cho’s also learning how to cook a larger variety of Korean food, an activity that’s really important to her as it helps her stay connected to her cultural roots.
