At Summer Search, we believe our world is better off when everyone can discover their purpose.
Our mission is to unleash students' potential through mentoring and transformative experiences. Beginning in their sophomore year of high school through post-secondary completion, we partner with our students to help them discover that they possess the talent and strength to carve their place in the world.
- 100% of our students graduate from high school on time.
- 69% earn a bachelor’s degree within 6 years of high school graduation, compared to 21% of their peers.
- The majority of our alumni hold debt of less than $30K, compared to $50K for adults aged 22–35 who borrowed money for college.
Wilma Wallace just finished her six-year role at REI as their Diversity and Social Impact Officer, which oversees the co-op’s enterprise-wide racial equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Wallace was promoted into these new roles in September 2021, previously having served as REI’s General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Wallace currently serves as board chair of the REI Cooperative Action Fund, a 501 (c)(3) public charity.
Prior to joining the Co-op in October 2017, Wallace was interim General Counsel for Enveritas, a sustainability startup venture. She had a successful 20-year career at Gap Inc., progressing to senior executive roles during a time of innovation, growth and a shifting retail environment. While at Gap Inc., Wallace was responsible for legal, compliance, government affairs and award-winning sustainability functions. Throughout her career, Wallace has been an advocate and leader in driving cultural change to address legal and compliance risk, and to advance the role of organizations in promoting a fully inclusive and equitable society.
Wallace currently also serves on the board of Premera, a provider of healthcare services, and on the boards of several non-profit organizations each with a mission to advance equity; and legal, environmental or economic justice. She is a graduate of Brown University and holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.
