The following is a message from Dr. Marc Spencer, Summer Search CEO.

Dear Summer Search Community,

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a disturbing number of incidents of anti-Asian and anti-Pacific Islander bias and violence, especially in recent months. These incidents (many of which are not being reported and are invisible to major media outlets) not only cause anxiety for many in our community, they are also painful reminders of the long, sad history of anti-Asian discrimination in the United States.

We know this is a difficult moment for our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) students, alumni, families, staff, supporters, and allies. To our Summer Searchers: we are here to support you, so please reach out.

For those interested in learning more and taking action, here is a collection of Anti-Asian Violence Resources.

Until we end racial inequity, we cannot accomplish education, health, economic, or social equity. Summer Search will continue to work to address and resist systemic and institutional racism, and to support our larger community in navigating through deeper conversations on racial justice.

As always, Summer Search stands with and for our students and families regardless of immigration status, gender, sexuality, race, ability, or religion.

In Solidarity,

Dr. Marc Spencer
