Welcome to another edition of #Snapshot, where we bring you a glimpse of what’s going on at Summer Search.
Before we’re completely immersed in the month of June—with graduations and students preparing to leave on their summer experiences—we look back on May, an extremely meaningful month in the college application calendar. The beginning of May is the official deadline for most high school seniors to make their final decisions about where they’ll be going to college.
Throughout the month, our senior Summer Searchers, many of whom will be the first in their families to make the journey to college, have been celebrating this important milestone. It’s the culmination of all the hard work they’ve put into researching schools, writing personal statements, sending in applications, navigating financial aid, and choosing the best fit with their families and mentors.
So, here’s a quick look at a few of the Summer Searchers who’ve made their final college decisions, and where they’re headed in the fall!
In New York City, several college bound Summer Searchers attended a city-wide College Decision Day event hosted by Harlem Educational Activities Fund at the famous Apollo Theater, which was not only a celebration, but also offered a workshop for families about financial aid and a student cohort-building seminar. #CDD2017
In the photo above, beginning in the top row, from left to right, we have Aissatou (New York University), Lizbeth (SUNY Cortland), Emely (School of Visual Arts), Luiz (Saint Lawrence University), Ismael (St. Bonaventure College, Jason (John Jay College), and Naiomi (Dickinson College).
In the bottom row, it’s Yannelly (John Jay), Kassandra (Ithaca College), and Yailin (Paul Smith’s College).
Check out more photos from this event on NYC’s Facebook page.
In the Bay Area, our College Access mentors have been sharing lots of decision photos on their Instagram account. Here are a few, starting in the top left:
• Edward said yes to Colgate University
• Keara and her mentor Jason celebrated her choice to go to UC Davis
• Martin accepted a full ride to Princeton University
• Dan with her mentor Simone at the South Bay Spring Event, after Dan committed to Yale University
Philadelphia has also been celebrating on social media. The photo collage above shows three college bound seniors, Xiomara (top), Tyrone, and Nate, with their “Decision Wings” in the Philly office. All three are attending Kutztown University, and they’ll also be part of the TRiO program on campus, which provides support for first-generation college students!

Later in the month, Seattle celebrated their graduating high school seniors at their Spring Event, alongside the students’ families.
Here’s where a few of these smiling Seattle seniors are going to school:
• Madison (front row, left), Karishama (second row, middle), and Heidi (front row, right): University of Washington-Seattle
• Angel (second row, second from left) and Faviola (front row, middle): University of Washington-Bothell
• Jayjay (second row, far left): Bellevue College
• Beth (third row, middle): Seattle Pacific University
Boston also recently had it’s Spring Event to celebrate their graduating seniors. Among the graduates pictured with their Summer Search Certificates of Achievement, Tiffany is going to Tufts University, James is attending UMass Amherst, Scotty decided on UMass Dartmouth, and Norman is going to Northeastern University.
Congratulations to all of our high school graduates and college bound leaders! We can’t wait to see where the next chapter in your journey takes you!
