Welcome to another edition of #Snapshot, where we bring you a glimpse of what’s going on in the Summer Search orbit.
Bay Area Hip Hop (and Summer Search) at the White House!!
That's Nathaly Arriola Maurice, Summer Search Bay Area alumna, with a crew of Bay Area Hip Hop icons: rappers E-40, Mistah F.A.B, and Too $hort, radio host/journalist Sway Calloway, and entertainment publicist Didier Morais. The group connected with Nathaly while visiting the White House to celebrate the Golden State Warriors NBA championship last month.
In fact, Nathaly is the one who invited them to the White House! (More on that below...)
Nathaly posted the above photo on her Instagram, saying simply: "#BayArea #HipHop #TheCulture in the White House for the #warriors celebration."
You can also spot Nathaly on Sway's Instagram:
Nathaly has worked in Washington, D.C. for much of her career. Currently, she serves as Special Assistant to the President (yes, the PRESIDENT!) and White House Director of Partnerships (where one part of her job is celebrity engagement, hence the epic invite she was able to extend).
Previously, she's worked as Senate Press Secretary for Hispanic Media, Press Secretary for the White House's National Drug Control Office. Additionally, she has, and always will be, an advocate for her Latinx community.
Nathaly has also been generous with Summer Search, including speaking at our Bay Area Gala in 2019. She shared how Summer Search supported her to become a first-generation college graduate, and also gave her the confidence and self-advocacy tools to pursue her professional dreams:
"Summer Search is real. It’s transformative. It’s deep, uncomfortable, and unconditional. It helps you imagine new possibilities, tap into your internal strengths, and achieve incredible things."
Thank you Nathaly for the work you do, and for sharing such a cool moment with our community!
And congratulations Too $hort on the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop Grammy performance.
