The following is a message from Dr. Marc Spencer, Summer Search CEO.

Dear Summer Search Community,

Voting, along with free and fair elections, are staples of a true representative democracy. Throughout our country's history, Americans of all races, backgrounds, and creeds have fought to entrench the right to vote for all.

We at Summer Search condemn any attempt to steal away that right from the American people.

What we are witnessing in Georgia, and in 42 other states, is a coordinated, bad-faithed assault on voting rights, producing echoes of Jim Crow.

You can read full details of the recent Georgia legislation here (via NPR).

In America, it must not be a democracy for some, but not others. An attempt to disenfranchise People of Color in one community is an attack on the inalienable rights of every American.

To borrow a phrase from the US Constitution: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged."

We cannot achieve racial, educational, health, economic, or social equity if we return to the days of three-fifths. Summer Search will continue to address and resist systemic and institutional racism, while empowering our larger community through deeper conversations on racial justice.

As always, Summer Search stands with and for our students and families regardless of immigration status, gender, sexuality, race, ability, or religion.

In Solidarity,

Marc Spencer
