Become a Summer Search Referral Partner
The San Francisco office currently works with over 70 schools and youth organizations around the Bay Area and is focused on developing outreach to: Bayview, Hunter’s Point, the Tenderloin and Visitacion Valley in San Francisco, and Richmond in the East Bay.
Students MUST be nominated by a recognized referral source – teachers, guidance counselors, youth agencies - and cannot directly apply to Summer Search.
Summer Search uses the following criteria to select students:
- “RAP” Characteristics—Summer Search selects students based on three core characteristics: Reflection, Altruism, and Performance. This means Summer Search looks for students:
- Who can be introspective, and are open to examining and changing their behavior and future
- Who are empathetic and show care for others: the kids who volunteer to help and show gratitude.
- Who show that they can work hard to achieve their goals.
- Demographic Characteristics:
- Age—at the time of enrollment, candidates are high school sophomores aged 17 or less
- Income—candidates should qualify for a free or reduced price school lunch
- Immigration Status—candidates are documented or are on a clear path in the documentation process towards legal status
If you are a professional working with high school students in a school or agency setting and are interested in nominating students for Summer Search, please contact our outreach staff.
